Student Hockey

Calling all student hockey players

Whether you’re already playing hockey at Brighton or Sussex university, or are coming to uni as a fresher this year, if you would like to play some Saturday hockey in the local area, we’re the club for you …

Lewes Hockey Club welcomes students of all ages, with five Women's teams and six Men’s teams. Our Women's and Men’s first teams play regional level hockey and we have both competitive and more social teams throughout the club to cater for players of all standards.

We are well-known as a friendly, sociable and welcoming club and we have regular club and team social events over the course of the year. We also have excellent facilities at Lewes, with a modern clubhouse situated right next to our BRAND NEW astroturf pitch, which is generally considered to be one of the best in the region.

The club caters well for students and we have several players from both Sussex and Brighton University currently playing at the club. We also have the best student subscription and match fee rates in the area and offer the option of paying these on a monthly basis over the course of 10 months (rather than just the season) to make playing hockey a little bit easier on the pocket.

The clubhouse is not far from all university campuses and residences and is easy to get to by both road (just off the A27) and rail – we’re only 5 minutes walk from Lewes station. Trains run regularly to and from Lewes station, which is only 7 minutes from Falmer and 15 minutes from Brighton. Several of our current players live in the Brighton, Lewes and Eastbourne area and we are always happy to arrange lifts.

The Women's section trains every Tuesday night from 7.00pm (3rd & 4th XI) or 8pm (1st & 2nd XI). The Men’s section trains on Thursday nights from 7.00pm (3rd to 6th XI) or 8.00pm (1st & 2nd XI). Both sections have a range of fully qualified coaches.

So, whatever your standard of hockey or playing experience, we’d love to see you at Lewes. Please do come along and try us out!

If you’d like more information please do contact the Mens or Women's club captains, or telephone the Southdown Club on 01273 480630.

Hope to see you at training!
