Website Rejuvination

If you haven’t noticed by now the website is currently being fiddled with to make it more user friendly and snazzy.

Long Hair’s Long Run

Whilst the ladies teams may have run away with the league this year, a very different type of run is due to happen on Sunday 26th of April. John Murphy, captain of the Men’s 4th team and better known around the club as Long Hair, will be running the London Marathon in support of the charity Ability Bow. They are a gym in North London who provide a safe and comfortable environment for people with health conditions or other disabilities to take part in regular exercise with special instructors – a more than worthy cause I’m sure you’ll all agree. Check them out at http://www.abilitybow.co.uk/.
Given that this is probably the first good thing Long Hair as ever done with his life that didn’t involve a jug, a hockey stick or bad fashion sense, it would be great if we could all chip in and show our support with whatever donations you can muster. Even the slightest amount of pennies makes the a world of difference when they are all added together, so any sponsorship or words of encouragement (or berating jibes if you feel so inclined) would be greatly appreciated.

If you need more of an incentive, every pound you donate is one more reason for him to get through the race quicker: the more you donate, the more pain he’ll be in. If that isn’t reason to get the cheque book out, I don’t know what is.

Donations can be made at https://www.bmycharity.com/V2/johnVSlondon, or if you’d like more info, drop him a line on 07821 911 377, or johnm@cogapp.com.
Thanks in advance for all your support.

Ladies Complete Operation Invincible.

And so it came to pass: After 18 games, 17 wins, 1 draw and no losses the Ladies’ 1st XI secured the league title and promotion to South 3B.  They beat 3rd placed Worthing 6-3 with another professional display which took their tally of goals to 142 this season. They have conceded just 10.

I am sure everyone would agree that it has been a wonderful season for the players involved with the Ladies 1sts, we hope they can build on their success next season.

Ladies On The Brink Of Greatness.

Forget Arsene Wenger’s invincibles, forget Floyd Mayweather Junior, forget Roger Federer, the real superstars of the sporting world are Lewes Ladies 1st XI.

Having recently overcome nearest challengers East Grinstead in a win or bust league game, the Southdown girls’ title procession stops at Worthing this week for their last league game.

Barring a defeat of biblical proportions, and an equally epic East Grinstead win, Lewes will be crowned champions and promoted to South 3b to mix it with the big guns.

It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the girls, who have shown tremendous bouncebackability after coming so close the year before. Let’s hope they can add to the 136 goals they have already bagged this season, and get into the dinner dance mood in style.

It seems the Ladies’ section is the place to be. The Ladies’ 3rd XI are already crowned champions and guaranteed their second consecutive promotion, all this done with two games to spare.  What price them repeating the trick next season?

Flying the flag for the men are the Lions, who sit proudly atop their league with a nine point cushion with just 3 games to go.  With their mix of free-flowing total hockey and unrivalled enthusiasm the future of the club looks very bright. I know Anna Heitman is very proud of her boys and we should all be too!

Well done to all concerned, see you on Saturday at the Dinner Dance for a celebratory diet coke.

Bath Half Marathon on 15th March 2009.

I’m sure those of you who have been around the club a while remember Jon Hooker. He is a former 2nd XI Captain, former ladies’ coach and former 1st XI Vice Captain who always gave his all for Lewes Hockey Club.

As you may know Jon moved on to join the army and is now based (when not defending Queen and country) down in Bath.

Basically, as the title of this post would suggest, Jon and one of his army colleagues are running the Bath half Marathon in March. They are running it for the Help the Heroes charity but instead of just running it, they are lugging round full kit as well. Although these are tough times, it would be great if we could show our support financially for a guy that gave so much to our fine hockey club. So, visit http://www.justgiving.com/jon_and_tom and put your hands in your pockets.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Ross.
