Four goals from Hugh Porter and Hugh Middleton and a Ben Battle solo effort comfortable beat St Francis 9-2 in the first game of the New Year. A great team performance saw Lewes playing fast passing hockey at a pace which St Francis struggled to keep up with. Having started with great intensity the Lions stormed to a 2 goal lead as further chances went begging a slip let St Francis back into the game. But further 2 goals from Hugh (which one?) put Lewes into a comanding half-time position at 4-.
Starting the second half continuing to play as a team Hugh (man of the match) Middleton was the first to reach 4 goals while two superbly finished team goals one particular gaol following a great cross from Elliot Middleton had the large crowd on their feet applauding. Hugh Porter tenacious as ever completed his 4 goals with a scorcher into the top left corner. Great work in midfield from Rio, Toby, Jamie , whilst the defence Louis, Dylan, Barnaby, Bertie were marshalled expertly by Ollie Ingham. Despite the score line Stan Hughes dealt with a number of St Francis attempts very competently inspiring confidence on the team to play attacking hockey.
Great team performance boys - lets keep this going...
