Eastbourne 2 - Lewes Lions 5

A late start under the lights at Eastbourne saw another comprehensive performance from the Lions despite suffering the continued loss of goal keeper Jonathan Cornish and a number of other non availabilities. Finding their rhythm quickly the Lions soon found their stide - hunting down the ball mercilessly - providing little respite for the Eastbourne side. Joe Rideout making a welcome retun to the pride played well at at center midfield and Drew Wain picking up from his promising debut last week play well at centre forward. Jack Bage opend the scoring following a lung busting run by Man o the match Fred Squires-Saunders who made an excellent tackle deep in our own half interchanging skillfully with Sam Webster before surging into the D to set up Jack to make it 1-0. Eastbourne were awarded a penalty corner which Manse playing at kicking back in the absence of Jonny Cornish let through his legs to undo all the good work of the first half.

The second half was one way traffic as the Lions continued to surge forward, with Jamie Cooke and Fred again prominent in many of the attacks. Adam Stoneley cut in from the right wing and sloted home to put the Lions 2-1 up. This was quickly followed by anothe from Jack Bage. Drew switching to the left wing collected another Adan Stonely cross at the far post to open his account for the Lions and then Adan scored his second following a great team goal resulting from an interception by Charlie Cooke who put in a solid perfoamnce at left back. Harry Davenport and Jo Fitch continued to snuff out any attackes from Eastbourne and 5 -1 looked a comfortable scoreline until a speculative ball into the D by Eastbourne was deflected past the stranded Mansell to provide a consolation goal for the home side.
