Lions roar into their first win of the season

The Lions playing away at Hailsham recorded their first win of the season with a well taken goal by man of the match Charlie Kingsbury 10 minutes before half time. The Lions welcomed 3 younger players in Oliver Amos, Leon Keating and Finley Mansell to this mid table game, as injuries and half-term reduced the Lions match day squad. Oliver and Leon, who had played earlier for the Lion Cubs, both played very solidly in defence against a Hailsham side keen on a long ball game. Lewes created many chances, but once again the final pass and decision making in the attacking third let the side down. Despite that the team worked hard upping the work rate to prevent Hailsham time on the ball. 10 minutes from half time a good break down the left saw Adam Stonely, Sam Worlidge and Charlie Kingsbury interchange well leaving Charlie to beat 2 defenders at the top of the circle before unleashing a powerful shot which left the goalkeeper rooted to his spot. This spurred Lewes on and numerous other changes were created with Archie Sherwood, Jack Bage and Stan Chalmers all going close. During the second half, after taking a painful blow on his foot Archie made way for Finley Mansell who slotted into the Left wing. A fractious last 10 mins during saw Lewes defend well to enter the half term break with 3 points on the board.
