Lions beat East Grinstead 4-3 in last game of the season
A Jago Hussain Hat-trick and one from Lions top scorer Toby Izzard see Lions run out winners against a strong East Grinstead side
Toby Hutchinson captained the side on his last appearance for the Lions, who started at half pace against a strong EG side. Careless with possession they found themselves 2 goals down at half time - the 2 Lions Goal keepers shared the GK goal keeping duties and Dirren Quinn was offered little protection in the first half as the Lions barely woke from their after dinner slumber. The Lions reorganised at half-time with their u16 cup winning forward line re-united and with better control of possession the pace of Jago, Ollie Sherfield and Toby Izzard started to cause EG problems. The defence of Bertie Collison, Xavier Anouk and Kian Milne marshalled well by Jamie Combs played solidly and with timely interceptions and good distribution allowed the midfield to control the game. Toby Hutchison played a incisive through ball which released Jago to score the first. Then Good interchange between Her Roser and Louis Soudain allowed Toby Izzard to reach the bye line his ball into the D was met first time by Ollie Sherfield and his shot rebounds from the keeper to Jago to put the Lions level. Will Ward was involved with the 3rd goal as he played in Toby Izzard who controlled the ball, went past 2 defender before shooting into the bottom left corner. Jago added completed his hat-trick and then in the closing few minutes Stan Hughes made several good saves to keep EG at bay and was unfortunate with a 2 on one which allowed EG to score. The Lions held on to the win a result which pushes them to 4th place in the league.
Having won the U16 Sussex Cup , semi-finalists in the u14 cup and 4th place in the league having introduced a number of new younger playing into the team a good end to the season.
