Goals from Hugh Middleton, Toby Izzard (2), Ollie Sherfield and Josh Randall were too much for a Mid Sussex overrun by the all-round performance of the Lions

The Lions entertained Mid Sussex, one place behind the Lions in the league, at Falmer in the early fixtures of the day and caught the Mid Sussex Colts napping. Hugh Middleton open the scoring with a fine solo goal picking up a defence splitting pass from Ollie Sherfield some 30 meters out he forged into the D and unleashed a rising shot which flew into the top left corner before the Mid Sussex keeper had time to position himself. Dirren Quinn made several telling saves in goal for Lewes before the lions stepped up the ball speed and passing. Toby Izzard collected another before half time but really the Lions had squandered a number of chances during the first half. With Lewes subs also being attacking players the second half started with and intensity that had MidSussex pinned in their own 23 for much of the half. Lewes struggling to find any through the packed defence until Toby intercepted a rare Mid Sussex attack played a neat 1-2 with Heny Roser and then again with Ollie Sherfield to score his second. Another Team goal quickly followed Bertie Collison and Jamie Combe looking assured at the back combined to release Baranby Heinzl whoses telling ball was expertly laid of to Ollie Sherfield who round the last 2 defenders before thundering a shot past the keeper.

A defensive lapse presented Mid Sussex with a scrappy goal and the industrious Josh Randal latch on to a good pass from Henry Roser to put the game beyond reach.
Next weeks game see the Lions away to top of the league Hailsham in the last league game of 2017 and a win would see the side swapping places.
