Despite starting slowly again the Lions came from a goal down to beat Eastbourne. With half term unavailability the squad once again showed its depth with Jago Hussain making his debut for the U16s with a solid performance on the right wing and Barnaby Heinzl again playing solidly in defence. In an open game a Man of the Match performance from Billy Palmer in Goal provided the difference between the sides. Having gone a goal behind, the Lions started to play some great passing hockey. Leon Keating made a timely tackle deep inside the Lewes half, passing the ball via Ollie Loader to Drew Wain, playing in midfield for the first time, to Charlie Kingsbury , who release Ollie Amos on the left wing. His cross was deflected first time by Hugh Porter to back to Drew who found Fred in a crowed Eastbourne area who turned and hit a rasping shot into the right hand corner.
This soured the Lions on who created many more changes. Lewes turned around at 1-1 and started the second hal continuing to entertain the crowd with attacking Hockey. Another flowing move fond Jago Hussain sprinting to the eastbourne by-line and his strong pass found Drew at the top of the D, who side stepped his marker to hit a rasping lifting shot to put the Lions in the lead. Billy was called up several times to make impressive saves and his resolute keeping spread further confidence through the team.
Shot of the game came from Hugh Porter who latched on to a lifted ball from close to half way by Drew to smash the ball just inches wide. Charlie Kingsbury produced a number of maizey runs and producing a fine solo goal with 10 mins to go. Eastbourne clawed one back at the end with deflected shot following a shot corner which wrong footed the whole defence.
Fine team performance leaving Lewes in 2nd place in the league.
