Lewes lionesses won the sussex development hockey league a week early with a convincing 8-0 victory over Worthing Llamas.

In an eighteen game campaign they drew two games and only lost one against an unrecognisable Mid sussex team who were bottom. The league allows 2 adults to play in an otherwise u-16 girls league but Lewes played 6 of their games without one only ever using one adult and using 44 players in league games in a squad of nearly 60.

Jameela Price- King in goal only let in 13 goals all season such was her skill and the miserly defence of Tania Coombs, Gabby Mack, Megan Roser, Anya De Silva and Ella Mansell. So far Lewes have scored 78 goals with 14 year old Jess Wycherley scoring 23 from midfield with a number of short corner strikes. The Beauchamp twins of 12 yrs old scored 25 between them, Antonia getting 14. The midfield of Rosie Youngman, Alex Selwood-Taylor, Ellen Bailes and Wycherley ran the superb Lewes engine room and as ever with a winning league team the girls gelled beautifully and the final cog was Sophia Simmonds who scored 9 goals at centre forward.

The Worthing win started sluggishly but a trademark Wycherley cross set up Antonia Beauchamp on the far post for one of two goals. Wycherley scored a hat trick including two short corners and Simmons a brace. A rare goal from Selwood-Taylor completed a day of celebration for the Lewes girls and manager Charlie Wycherley who finished 6 years of junior management with a final league win.
