Match report: Alison Bruce
Crawley: 0
Lewes 4s: 3 (Storey, Cunningham, Heinzl)
The fours tried to remember all the instructions and exerted a lot of pressure on Crawley but had few chances on goal and at the end of the first half, the score remained nil-nil.
"More of the same" urged our captain at halftime but it was Crawley who had the first chance to go on the scoresheet, nimbly thwarted by Dion in goal. Quickly up the other end and some nice play on the right by Nipps and Flooz on the right wing (who would have thought it... a nod to past dizzy heights I believe) led to Darcey feeding Sue Storey who nicely lifted into the goal, amid much relief.
Now playing with a bit more fluidity, another nice move (that may have involved a 'w' or maybe just a 'v' ) led to Flooz controlling the ball on her reverse stick before picking her corner for the second. A few minutes later and even more excitement as Nipps scored her first goal for 10 years from a well worked short corner routine. The ensuing celebration would have earned a booking in the premier league but at least showed that 'Persil washes whiter'.
So a 3-nil win, a nice post-match tea and all going well until my driver said she had 99 problems to discuss on the way home but hockey wasn’t one.
