The importance of being beaten

The importance of being beaten

To lose by 10 goals may be regarded as a misfortune. To lose by 11 goals looks like carelessness

Even on points with 2 other teams in the danger zone and with the knowledge that relegation could well come down to a less favourable goal difference, the ladies in green hatched a plan to play defensively.

But hockey is rarely pure and never simple, and quicker than you could say ‘Let’s just limit the damage’ they were a goal down after 10 seconds, and 5 down at half time.

Lewes seemed to find some flair in the second half and, in fact, had 3 ‘shots’ on target and 2 penalty corners. But, as we all know: in matters of grave importance, style, not sincerity, is the vital thing.

We join them again next week for Handbags at dawn when they take on top of the league Horsham. n.b. that is NOT a target match.
