No luck at the end of the double rainbow

After some sprinkler activity, a freshly watered Dionne was left feeling rather moist between the hams and perhaps even more ready for action than usual.

Pre-match banter included technical discussions about the merits of water based pitches, and if there was really any need for all that water to be wasted watering something that doesn’t even grow. After deciding that it was alright as long as someone else was paying the water bill, it was time to play.

With some core defenders missing Lewes were slightly out of sorts and allowed East Grinstead to score first with a scrappy goal. But Lewes piled on the pressure, making attacking runs, and consistently feeding balls into the D for the strikers. They got their reward after 20 minutes when a Richards shot from top of the D resulted in a Jackson rebound to bring them level at the break.

EG scored 2 more easy goals after half time as their forwards were allowed to take their time dribbling into the D. Special mention goes to young Holly on her debut for Lewes who played a great first game in defence, marking well and even clearing balls off the goal line.

At 3-1 down with 5 minutes to go Lewes scored again with Flooz salvaging something from a bungled penalty corner to give Jackson her second of the game. As the clock ticked down, the Lewes defence pushed up for the final attack but they ran out of time to grab the equaliser.

Some post match text abuse from grumpy teenage offspring, sat just 5 yards away, only reiterated what most of the team were thinking - ‘Poo bum’.
