This is not fake news - Ladies 4s turn up on time

It was 9.45am in the ladies changing room at the Southdown Club when Dionne Gooding arrived for a 10.15 pushback. Her concerned team mates checked she wasn’t unwell and decided that this was a good omen. Inspired by their goal keeper’s renewed enthusiasm for time keeping; Lewes warmed up together; had their team talk during sumo stretches; and were actually on the pitch before the whistle (along with the umpires – incredible scenes).

Pumped at their ability to leave the changing rooms without a ‘third wee, just in case’, Lewes put their bras into sports mode and revved up for what they knew was one of the few remaining fixtures of the season where they stood a chance of picking up some much needed points. And with the welcome return of team mascot and chief baby whisperer - Alison The Bruce, their luck was surely about to change.

From the off there was: running, tackling, passing, and the customary unobserved foot-fouls. Then, there were goals. More goals than you could shake a hockey stick at. The first came within the opening minutes of the game when a cross from Sara 'cheeky 68k bike ride anyone?' Leatherland found Hep who pushed it home. Their second came minutes later when Ricochet Richards hit the ball from top right of the D for just call me ‘top goal scorer’ Hep deflect in her sixth of the season.

Goal three came from a trademark upright reverse dink from Dame Sue Storey. However, Crowborough clearly hadn’t read Lewes’ carefully written script and they scored a couple of their own before Lewes finally put the game to bed when Richards reversed a square pass to Hep for a shot. World of Leathers got a cheeky touch on a ball that was already goal bound to claim their fourth of the day.

This result and those of other teams in the league lifted Lewes above the dreaded red line. Bodes well.
