After the recent cold and frosty mornings had forced a 7 week hockey break, the ladies 4s drove half the world away to Chichester where they were bathed in an oasis of warmth and light.
With a squad of 13, some might say they had a masterplan but Lewes were prepared to roll with it, and cast no shadow with a fine formation of spritely specimens.
Chichester scored first then Lewes hit back from a penalty corner. Captain Mould struck cleanly from the top of the D and the deflection off injector Sara ‘Supersonic’ Hepple brought the equalizer.
Sweeper, Becky ‘Wonderwall’ Wycherley backed up the sterling efforts by the Lewes defence who, at times felt that they were standing on the shoulders of giants. But, little by little their doggedness paid off as they continued to scupper Chi’s chances to be here now.
Chichester opened the scoring in the second half. But, not content to let the game slide away, Lewes soon levelled. Zoe ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ Richards’ went on a curving right wing run to the backline and pushed the ball to the P spot where it was deftly dispatched by Sue ‘what’s the’ Storey ‘morning glory’.
Lewes acquiesced the final 2-2 scoreline and definitely, maybe agreed with the umpires that it was indeed a fair result.
