Ladies 4s record their first win in living memory

Unfortunately the starting whistle was still ringing in the players’ ears when valiant Captain Mould was sidelined with a canine induced leg injury.

Undeterred, the ladies were driven (like Miss Daisy) and were awarded their first penalty corner after just 5 minutes. Proving that preparation leads to perfect penalties – the forwards executed a text book p-spot manoeuver and the finish by Iris ‘I’m on fire’ Jackson was spot on.

Saxons replied with a breakaway goal soon after to make it one a-piece but the gals in green had loads more lead in their pencils. Sara pencil-full-of-Leaderland made a charge down the left wing, hit the ball in to Iris who followed it swiftly through to goal.

Lewes’ third and fourth goals both came from right wing runs by Zoe ‘lost my pencil sharpener Miss’ Richards to the backline to find Jackson perfectly placed on the p-spot for the finishes.

Then, in the second half, the unseasonal heat and general pace of the young visitors took their toll on the home side and it was all they could do to defend wave after wave of mazey 5 player attacks from Saxons. It was soon 4-2 and the defence were completely over-stretched – in fact Cloddy ‘lead balloon’ Love gave up with her stick and used her head instead.

Lewes proved they were made of tougher stuff and, headed up by Sara ‘Never should have hung up the helmet’ Hepple between the sticks, they saw off everything else that was thrown at them.
