A lesser loss and 2 goals bodes well.

The same blustery wet weather that blew across the whole of Sussex blighted the Lewes ladies as they travelled to play the same Chichester team for the second week running. Following their disappointing 8-1 defeat in the cup last week, the ladies were keen to make improvements and, at the very least, narrow the goal difference!

From the off they appeared to be playing a different team or were Lewes just playing better hockey? It certainly seemed that way as their linking play and attacking runs earned them the first goal. A long cross from Zoe Richards on the right found youngster Holly Inkpen waiting by the left post for the tip in. A repeat of a training drill on Tuesday that would have made Sara Riley proud! Centurions fought back and half time saw the stakes even at one a piece.

The second half was a different story and the Lewes defence had their work cut out as the home side began to drive forward with well-worked passing routines. They were marshalled well by sweeper Alison Bruce but 2 more goals were conceded before Lewes earned one back through a text book short corner routine. A slip to the penalty spot found Fern Ketley waiting. Proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Centurions finished the game off with another 2 goals but Lewes were very pleased with their team performance and will take that to the Southdown next week as they play for the win against Chichester Priory Park.
