After a week when England was largely snowed in, it was to much relief that the roast beef was put to one side and a catch up League game was fitted in against Burgess Hill on Sunday and fun was had by all for the Mirth of Fourth(s).
The customary warm up went downhill quickly and despite skills being parallel the Hillians ran faster particularly down the right, meaning Lewes were skating on thin ice. The cracks soon showed and a cold blast hit the Southdown as 1 and then 2 Goals left Lewes deeply freezing in half time bleakness.
Becky Wycherley was ice cool at the back and Cloddy and Zoe Richards sherpa’d the tensing troops in midfield. Goal chances slipped by from Leathers and Iris Buckley to much sledging and youthful bluster hailed on the game. The cream being ....Sharpe as an icicle in goal and Jemima Blewitt who didn’t!
Two further goals from the now alive Hills slushed the crowd, but then a late avalanche sweetened things up and before the inevitable coffee queue Lewes got their just desserts and player of the match Darcy...Bustled and had a polar shot with a touch of frost to make the apres ski more palatable to mull over at 4-1, though sadly Lewes are tobogganing down!
