FIXTURE: SLL Div 2
HOME TEAM: Lewes Ladies 4s 2 (Jackson 2)
AWAY TEAM: South Saxons Ladies 2's 5
Lewes Ladies 4s rolled out on time for their home fixture against South Saxons. Having won the away leg pre-Christmas, frozen points were not anticipated.
The defence held up well during the first half. Goalkeeper, Olivia Wiles, successfully buffered numerous attempts on target but Saxons eventually slammed one home. Keeping the pressure up, Lewes were unlucky not to equalise when Iris Jackson struck the signal post.
Conductor Zoe Richards flagged up the team’s resilience at the half way stage and Lewes proceeded at full steam. Sara Leatherland continued her ‘express train’ assaults down the right siding which resulted in a well-gauged goal.
Saxons, however, were not off-peak and Lewes could not halt their winning performance, despite a spectacular clear off the line from guardsman Claudine Love. When the final whistle blew the score line stood at 5-2 to the visitors.
Remaining at the bottom of the departures board, are the Ladies 4s up the junction or will they remain on track to maintain their place in Division 2? The clock is ticking.
