Swans knock Cygnets off their perch

FIXTURE: SLL Div 2
HOME TEAM: Eastbourne Cygnets 1
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Ladies 4s 1

Having spotted two lucky magpies on the way to Eastbourne the gaggle of ladies fours set out to keep their pecker up in this top v bottom of the bird table contest.

Whilst not making a direct appearance, due to practicing her part in the spring chorus, Captain Richards had dutifully and caringly put the flock together; but it was down to stand in captain Julia ‘sparrowhawk’ Hoare to give a pet talk in the changing rooms before push back.

Having had a goal disallowed for flying too high the Cygnets feathers were ruffled, and whilst they put one in from an early short - a brace eluded them. The Lewes defence held thanks to some seedingly good pecking from Hannah ‘black cap’ Burrage and Nipps ‘gamebird’ Cunningham. Darcy ‘chick of the match’ Gallager’s continuous dabbin on the wet pitch super seeded the Cygnets ball skills and only served to raise their frustration.

Despite an injured wish bone, Harriet put in a starling performance on the left making a real difference to the attacking flight formation, then later in the first half Iris ‘great tit’ Jackson thrushed one into the mist net and levelled the pecking in this tightly fought contest.

The half time tweet from Caitlin ‘bird’ Wheatley complimented guest GK Dori’s wingspan but suggested that team murmurations would benefit from more width. Taking this on the beak Kitty ‘wake’ Simmons flew further out to the right ably assisted from behind by Rhiannon redstart Burgess who took to this like a duck to water.

As a result of a performance to be proud of, there was no change to half time 1-1 score line - so congratulations go to the whole team for robin a point from ‘sick as parrots’ Eastbourne Cygnets.

Unfortunately, like greenfinches, the fours are still on the red list BUT they continue to show signs of a 2018 recovery.
