FIXTURE: SLL Div 2
HOME TEAM: Brighton and Hove Women's 5s 7
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Ladies 4s 0
The bitter cold of the Brighton and Hove pitch certainly froze the performance of the Lewes Ladies, with a 0-7 defeat returning them to sub-zero level in the league.
Keeper Dionne Gooding made several valiant saves to keep the score lower than in previous clashes and player of the match went to Left-mid Julia Hoare whose sparrow-like feathers never once looked ruffled.
With the score at 0-6 at half-time, there is no doubt that Lewes pulled things together in the second half letting through only one further goal. Forward Iris Jackson was unlucky to miss out on two good strikes at goal.
Hands, toes and hearts were warmed in the Brighton and Hove clubhouse as the opposition praised Lewes' 'gracious' and 'determined' spirit on the pitch. Described as a 'credit to the league', it strengthened Lewes' resolve to lift themselves off the bottom in coming games. And they will.
