Lewes Ladies 4s lose 2-3 against Mid Sussex Ladies 2's

On a Southdown pitch that would have been more suited to Torvill and Dean or the Toronto Maple Leafs the Lewes Ladies ice hockey fourth eleven set out to try to extend their unbeaten run to a second game.

The tenacious home captain opened the scoring with a win against the opposition umpire who wanted the game postponed due to the hard, glossy finish on half of the pitch. Richards won and Lewes achieved a mere 20 minute delay to the start, her warm and assertive words obviously melted their cool heads, if not the pitch, and they agreed that the game could go ahead.

With the bookies pre-match odds at 25-1 for a home win, loyal punters started getting excited when Kitty Simmons put the ball cleanly into the Mid Sussex net following a solo run and one to one with the keeper.

This unexpected early lead led to a few high Axels and a full aerial 360’ revolution from returning team favourite and player of the match, Claudine Love who reliably cleared the puck from Lewes 25 and prevented too many from reaching the Wise home goalie.

A second Lewes goal came in the second half from Sue ‘Princess Leah’ Storey as she tapped in with little force from a lightning saber quick free hit taken by Richards from just outside the D.

Sadly three Mid Sussex goals spoiled the Lewes party, but the team were able to hold their heads up high when returning number one Greens supporter, CArys, complemented them on their improved form and her kind words allowed them to believe that in a warmer galaxy far, far away the team had probably won!
