Ladies 4's lose 1-0 against Eastbourne Cygnets

Lewes unlucky as second half one way traffic fails to result in deserved goal

LEAGUE: Sussex Ladies league division 2
HOME TEAM: Lewes Ladies 4’s 0
AWAY TEAM: Eastbourne Cygnets 1

Surprisingly the traffic queues on the way to Falmer were not hordes of supporters coming to Lewes 4's game against Eastbourne cygnets.

If they had watched the game they would not have wanted for entertainment. After Lewes had some good, early chances, including a short-corner shot from Julia Hoare which pinged off the post, the game settled down into an even contest and half time arrived with the teams level at 0-0.

Eastbourne struck early in the second half when an unmarked attacker slipped the ball past a lonely keeper. They could have gone further ahead, but goalie Dionne Gooding made an excellent save from a penalty stroke.

From then on it was mostly one-way traffic as Lewes pressed for an equaliser with centre forward Iris Jackson showing signs of returning to her goalscoring best.

Lewes were unlucky to lose and are still goalless this season but given this showing, the first goal is not long in coming.
