At least the short corner training worked!

LEAGUE: Sussex Ladies League Division 2
HOME TEAM: Lewes Ladies 4’s 0
AWAY TEAM: Brighton and Hove Women’s 5’s 5

The score line didn’t reflect the game…or so we were assured by Pete Thomas who umpired along with team faithful, Richard Walker. Pete commented on our ‘superb effort and how we battled and defended’.

Yes, some of the defence may have been agricultural and some of the rules may have needed clarification for these fine fillies stretching their legs in the 10.15 showdown with Brighton at Southdown, but it’s the effort that really counts isn’t it?

The pre-match short corner training (yes, we arrived in time for pre-match training!) run by PT and Kev the Trainer clearly paid off as none of the opposition goals were scored in this way; for the rest of the game we relied on Hope Abercrombie to ensure that Brighton didn’t put too many away.

Awards:  ‘Endurance award’ goes to Captain Zoe who endured from the sidelines despite a nasty invasion of the influenza virus and ‘Tombstone of Joy’ was awarded to Hannah Burrage for her mileage in defence.

The team was delighted to welcome triathlete, and former captain, Cpt Mould back to the mid-field and is looking forward to beating Crystal Palace in the race for a first season league goal.
