LEAGUE: SLL Div 1
HOME TEAM: Lewes Ladies 3’s 2 (Riley, Rowsell)
AWAY TEAM: Southwick Ladies 1’s 1
Having failed to take points from a strong Southwick side for several seasons, Lewes approached Saturday’s game more in hope than expectation!
Good early pressure raised the level of belief, and although always vulnerable to a fast Southwick break, Lewes were ahead at half time, thanks to Sara Riley skilfully taking the ball around the keeper, and slotting home.
In the second half the game was stretched. Hope Abercrombie was magnificent in goal, saving numerous shots, and earning the ‘Girl of the Game’ accolade.
A Lewes penalty corner yielded another goal, with Ali Rowsell slotting the ball into the corner having found some space in the D. A late Southwick flurry wasn’t enough to level the match, with the home team deserving the victory.
