Southampton made the journey to Lewes hoping to recreate their victory at the start of the season. However, Lewes were on a roll and wanted to make right their errors in their first match against the feisty Southampton side.
As play began Lewes dominated, passing the ball beautifully across the pitch, making some brilliant passes and utilising the whole pitch. Defending hard and attacking harder Lewes won a short corner. Southampton broke it down but Lewes reacted accordingly. A slip from Poppy Joshi to Sarah hall was deftly passed to captain Anna Hilton, who slotted the ball away. Lewes took the 1-0 nil lead into the second half.
Southampton were not happy about this and came back hard, using everything they had in the locker, including the kitchen sink. Fouls from both sides and some interesting tackles saw play being broken down. With a loss of concentration from Lewes Southampton took their chance and snuck back a goal.
Lewes battened down the hatches to hold out for a 1-1 draw. A big improvement on their previous performance against Southampton. Lewes go into the Christmas break mid-table.
