The opposition was a well-drilled Haslemere team who proved effective from the word go, scoring 2 goals in the first half from open play. With some excellent transfers and forward attacks by Lewes, the girls were getting outcomes in the attacking D but the Haslemere Goal Keeper was quick to clear the attempts.
After a discussion of tactics at half time, Lewes made a concerted effort to maintain possession and only attack when the spaces appeared. This resulted in winning a short corner which was punched into the back of the goal by Sarah Hall. Time was ticking away whilst Lewes tried to claw back another goal. Unfortunately, luck was not going their way and Haslemere secured their third goal from a penalty corner to take them to a 3-1 lead.
The game wasn't over yet. Just before the final whistle went, Lewes secured a final penalty corner which resulted in 10 Lewes players around the D hoping for one more goal. Fortunes turned and a penalty stroke was awarded to Lewes. Just as always Sarah stepped up to the ball and pocketed the ball into the corner of the goal with confidence and once more rewarding the Lewes girls for their efforts. A great game and a brilliant player of the match performance from Carla Leach.
