A trip to Burnt Ash on Sunday resulted in a 5 – 0 win for Lewes Ladies 1s with a hat trick from Laura Molloy and goals from Sarah Hall and Jess Wycherley.
With a few regular first team players unable to play, the team sheet reflected a youthful side for the first stage of the EHA Trophy with some hard working players from the Ladies 2s completing the team.
Straight from the whistle Lewes dominated play and were awarded an early penalty corner that was converted by Molloy. Fast attacking work between Phoebe Rivet and Wycherley allowed Molloy to secure the second goal of the match. Further penalty corners were neatly converted by Hall and Molloy.
Lewes’ high intensity in the second half placed Burnt Ash under considerable pressure. The fifth goal came from Wycherley who, one on one with the goalkeeper, scored a ‘belter’ of a goal from the top of the D with the ball flying into the roof of the net.
Lewes ensured they kept a clean sheet with some composed goalkeeping from Tess Youngman and strong clearances from defenders Libby Youngman and Amy Wayne. The 5 – 0 win for Lewes sees an excited team into the next round of the Trophy.
