The Veterans won a round robin tournament on Sunday hosting Southwick, Worthing, Mid-Sussex and South Saxons.

With matches being twenty minutes one way only there was no margin for error and the warm weather took its toll on sides in the later stages of the tournament. Holders Lewes beat Southwick 2-0 in their opening match with Mike Fuller and Jon Williams on target. They followed this up with a 2-0 victory over Mid-Sussex with goals from Fuller and Paul Spruce although Lewes goalkeeper Chris Sharpe made some good saves at important times. In their third crucial match against also unbeaten Worthing, Lewes rode their luck but solid defending by Will Champness and Mark Tonkin ensured a last minute well taken goal by Fuller gave them a narrow somewhat fortunate 1-0 victory.

Lewes needed to avoid defeat in their final match to reach the final and the pressure got to them as chances were missed and then, with 10 minutes remaining, Saxons scored after a break out of defence. Lewes were in danger of losing and wasting all their hard work by failing to qualify on goal difference but with four minutes remaining Rob Heinzl combined with Jon Williams to set up Spruce to equalise from close range and ensure Lewes qualified for the final. They will play Brighton on Sunday 27th April at Brighton Hockey Club.
