The hosts could have few complaints as they struggled to create many chances against a solid Hailsham defence. Successive penalty corners came to nothing and it was when Hailsham were down to ten players they scored when the Lewes defence failed to mark in the circle leaving a simple tap in from close range. Youngster Adam Stonley was unlucky to see a defected effort go over the bar just on half time for Lewes.
In the second half James Copplestone and Jack Troak were denied by a good covering tackle and a brave save by the Hailsham goalkeeper before another penalty corner was wasted. In the end Hailsham deserved their win and could have scored again but an effort from close range in the final minutes went high over the bar.
