Lewes put in another spirited performance but still ended up losing to remain in the relegation places.

Promotion-chasing Worthing controlled the early exchanges and with more composure in front of goal would have taken the lead. The Lewes defence survived and the hosts began to grow in confidence but were unable to fashion a clear-cut chance.

The second half followed a similar pattern but Lewes created more and Chris Marchant was unlucky when he met a cross with a powerful shot which was well saved by the Worthing goalkeeper. Martin Stillman then beat two players on the top of the circle but his shot was straight at the keeper. The first goal was going to be crucial and it arrived in bizarre circumstances for Worthing with fifteen minutes remaining. A quick break saw a shot come back off the post onto a Lewes players foot and roll into the goal. Lewes were forced to push up but could not create a penalty corner throughout the game against a well-organised Worthing defence. Lewes defender Hugo Youngman was outstanding and three times broke down Worthing breakaways in the final minutes. Lewes will know that time is running out unless they can get back to winning ways.
