Lewes had to drop a team at Christmas from the league after problems with availability so the 5th team have moved up to play as the 4th team for the rest of the season in Division 2. Any doubts about an ageing unfit side who would struggle were dispelled with a comprehensive victory to edge them away from the bottom of the league.
Lewes dominated early possession as Billy Smart and Mark Ashton controlled midfield and opened the scoring after fifteen minutes when Sam Heinzl's cross from the right was converted by Paul Spruce. Skipper Rob Heinzl increased the lead with a well taken flick into the roof of the net and Spruce made it 3-0 when he deflected in a penalty corner shot just on half time.
Lewes struggled in the early exchanges of the second half as Littlehampton came back into the match and it was no surprise when they scored following a break from halfway. This woke the hosts up and Heinzl thundered home a penalty corner strike midway through to make it 4-1 and then notched his hat trick with a fortuitous goal when he blocked the goalkeepers clearance and the ball rebounded into the goal. Lewes were well on top and further goals came from Johnny Rea and BIll Short to give them a comprehensive win.
