Lewes 3's (3) - Eastbourne 3's (1)
By Tom Casselden
3-1 Win concludes a League Winning season for Lewes 3’s.
Optimistic of beating the only team in the league that the 3’s hadn’t yet defeated this season, the game got of to a lethargic start. The pre match team talk focused on having fun and finishing the season on a high. Within minutes a fumble on the goal line due to a plethora of missed tackles the 3’s found themselves 1 goal down.
This Eastbourne goal proved a much needed wake up call for the Mighty 3’s who started to get the ball moving with the vigour and pace we had become accustomed to during the season. Youngman and Champness commanded the team from the back, pivoting the ball until options opened up. A cheeky (average at best) aerial ball from T Casselden found Toby Izzard at the top of the D. As ever, Izzard calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.
Another well worked passage of play from midfield hero’s Smart, Matthews and Pulley allowed ‘Tap in’ Tim Plail to raise the score line to 2-1 just before the half.
Eastbourne attacked hard in the start of the second with some real end to end stuff. Lewes re gained composure and dictated the majority of the play for the 2nd half. The Eastbourne keeper played well to keep the score line down as Lewes failed to capitalise upon many chances on the posts and 4 or 5 short corners. Patience paid off and after many phases of recycling Harvey found himself in enough space to score another beautiful reverse stick wonder goal. 3-1 Lewes.
A great result to top off a superb season for the League winning men’s 3s team.
