Lewes made the long trek east to Hastings on Saturday for a top of the table clash against Saxons 3s. Lewes started brightly and soon took the lead as Martin robbed the ball off the center back and slotted past the oncoming keeper. Lewes were on the attack again soon after and were awarded a flick. Unfortunately, Plails effort was saved, and this seemed to energise Saxons who soon found their footing. Shortly before halftime Lewes gave the ball away in attack, and a swift counter led to a Saxon's equaliser. The green defence stood firm until the break and Lewes went in at 1-1.
The 2nd half started in similar fashion, with wave after wave of Saxons attack, but the back 5 of Hughes, Picken, Youngman, Casselden and Denham stood firm and limited the opposition to speculative efforts from the top of the D. The pressure soon told when the hosts were awarded a harsh penalty flick after a foot by Picken in the D. The Saxons forward made no mistake. 2-1.
It wasn't until the last 10 minutes that Lewes found their rhythm again, and the door was finally opened in the 69th minute as Plail and Martin linked down the left, before freeing Casselden who's pinpoint pass picked out Izzard in the D, a fierce slap into the corner triggered scenes of jubilation amongst the Lewes boys. 2-2 at the final whistle.
