On a chilly afternoon Lewes embarked upon what they knew would be a tough match against top of the league Brighton Rocks.

Not long after the whistle blew Brighton put together a strong attacking play resulting in a goal (0-1). After being caught off guard, Lewes woke up and the game was much more even from here on in, with opportunities for both teams. Brighton continue to apply pressure, but the Lewes defensive combination of Green and Fewster stood strong. After a moment of confusion over a possible unblown umpires call Appleton played on, passing the ball to Cooke who completed a skilful one-two with Mathews to get Cooke to a shooting position left of goal, he took his chance and scored (1-1). The half continued hard fought with opportunities for both teams, with Brighton scoring just before the break (1-2).

After a tense half time talk Lewes came back out fighting with some really good periods of play, it was clear they had upped their intensity. More chances ensued, with some excellent defensive work from Fewster and some cracking saves by Palmer to keep Lewes in the game. Brighton won a short corner 10 minutes into the second half and scored after confusion in the D (1-3). Lewes fought hard but could not find the goal, executing some great passages of play to split the Brighton defence. 5 minutes from the end Lewes won a short corner. Loader injected the ball with pin point accuracy to Harvey, who skilled 2 players before cooley slapping the ball between the keepers legs (2-3). Despite repeated efforts from Lewes, they were not able to rock Brighton with their first loss of the season. Final score 2-3 to Brighton.

A strong performance by Lewes 3s with Tom Fewster as man of the match for his relentless defence of the Lewes goal. Special mention must also go to Charlie Cooke for his exceptional efforts up front, and Billy Palmer for some outstanding saves to keep Lewes in contention to the end. A disappointing loss but many positives to take away for future games.
