Brave effort but outclassed by opposition’s superior player

Looking to build on their recent form, Lewes 3’s who were missing two of their regular experienced players, travelled north to play on Crawley’s infamous sandy pitch.

In contrast to recent games they started well however, after 10 minutes of strong play, the Lewes structure broke down and they found themselves behind by the now too familiar score line 2-0. Despite repeated attempts to reorganise themselves, Lewes could not hold on to the ball and Crawley pressed hard for more goals with their centre-half controlling play.
A well worked team goal down the right hand side showed promise for Lewes with Pete Fuller clawing one back for the visitors. 2-1 at half time

The second half was a more even affair, but Crawley’s centre-half still controlled far too much of the game beating Lewes players all over the pitch. Only stout defending from all and in particular Chris Picken (Man of the match) kept Crawley from adding more.

With a full squad back on the pitch, due to a green card for Fuller (Muppet of the match) The final 15-20 minutes saw a fully committed Lewes team demonstrating our ability to play great hockey. The 3’s battled hard looking for the elusive equalizer, but their counter attacks were in vain and the match ended 2-1.

As with recent games, Lewes showed great resilience and on a different day the 3’s could perhaps have caused an upset away at Crawley!
