Chairman called up to be 9th man in a depleted side

The nine men of Lewes trudged the long trek to Chichester. Deploying the 4-3-1 formation hoping to salvage a draw out of nowhere. The match began in a predictable manner with Lewes firmly camped on the back foot, but with an experienced centre-back Lewes managed to survive the first 10 minutes.

Out of nowhere Sam Worlidge found some time and space and with perfect execution found the lone ranger up front Jack Meacher, who with four defenders around him found himself with the goal at his mercy, and smashed the ball into the bottom corner. Now with Chichester desperately needing a goal before half-time Lewes were yet again pushed back into their own half, and with a succession of Chichester short corners the inevitable looked to be coming. But some great saves from keeper Bertie Warren and some last ditch tackles Lewes held on.

Five minutes before half time Lewes had possession, then left-back Ed Phillips decided to take matters into his own hands. An excellent run, taking on several players down the left hand side of the pitch found himself outside of the Chichester D. He managed to pick out the Duracell bunny up front Jack Meacher who yet again found the back of the Chichester goal. 2-0 Lewes at Half time.

Start of the second half and the lack of players was starting to show with some of the Lewes players gasping for air. The second half was a full on bombardment from Chichester but the midfield and defence managed to withstand the onslaught, with Darren New leading the way at the back. But halfway through the second half Jack Meacher took on the Chichester back line single handedly and picked out Sam Worlidge in space in the D, who expertly put the ball away. Then after withstanding more pressure from Chichester Lewes managed to break away again, the the work horse Pete Dakin finding the back of the net this time.
