FIXTURE: Sussex Div 2
HOME TEAM: Southwick Mens 2's 3
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Men's 3s 1 (Kingsbury)
Following the 6-0 thrashing of Hailsham and the weather enforced week's break Lewes Men's 3s were full of confidence as they headed to struggling Southwick.
Unfortunately there was perhaps too much confidence as the sublime performance of the Hailsham game descended into what can only be described as the ridiculous performance of this match.
From the whistle Southwick were determined and aggressive dominating the early exchanges. Lewes struggled in all of the basic areas. It was no surprise when a breakaway led to Southwick's first goal. This prompted a measure of Lewes response and the Southwick keeper made a number of saves including an excellent save from a flicked penalty corner.
Lewes canme out vastly improved in the second half and an excellent finish from Charlie Kingsbury deservedly levelled the scores. Further Lewes pressure followed as first the post then a foot on the line denied Lewes the lead. However a breakaway by the Southwick forward led to a well taken finish.
As Lewes chased the game the same forward finished well from a tight angle to add gloss to the score line. Lewes came off the pitch somewhat bad tempered which is a trait that does not befit the stature of this team, to quote Winston Churchill ‘Sucess consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm’.
Lewes have the immediate opportunity to put things right when they travel to St Francis on Sunday filled with enthusiasm. MOM: Louis.
