FIXTURE: Sussex Div 2
HOME TEAM: Lewes Men's 3s 0
AWAY TEAM: Eastbourne Men's 3s 5
Returning to the second half of the season Lewes Men's 3s hoped to continue the run of form they had enjoyed leading up to the Christmas break. But instead Lewes began the New Year with a heavy defeat.
Both teams started strongly and looked evenly matched in the first 20 minutes. A cross goal strike found the end of an Eastbourne stick and they took the lead, another from a penalty corner and it was 2-0 at half time. A strong half time talk hoped to turn things around for the home team.
But Lewes continued to make basic errors and lost possession time and time again either by trying to dribble or pass the ball through players, a poor tactic against an experienced Eastbourne team.
Lewes pushed for goals and were denied by a couple of goal line saves. Several unconverted penalty corners and three more goals for Eastbourne gave Lewes a sobering 5-0 defeat to begin the year with.
Time to regroup for another tough fixture at top of the league Worthing next week.
