Threes win fourth game on the trot thanks to Drew Wain's winner

FIXTURE: Sussex Div 2
HOME TEAM: Lewes Men's 3s 1 (Wain)
AWAY TEAM: Crawley Men's 2s 0

This was a classic case of the match after the match before. In the wake of last week's stunning victory this game was always going to be a challenge against the visiting Crawley side who were buoyant in the league.

Lewes started in spectacular fashion. A rapier like thrust from Drew Wain carving through the Crawley rear. The same player then matched his run with a finish of some aplomb.

However instead of catapulting Lewes to greater heights the reverse occurred. Lewes became lethargic and disjointed with a number of unforced errors and poor touches giving Crawley several opportunities to equalise.

Fortunately Billy Palmer maintained his excellent form and repelled all comers. This game saw no fewer than four cards administered by the officials perhaps symbolic of the ragged nature of this match.

The second half continued in the same fashion, Lewes again thankful for the Chris Picken and Tom Fewster axis with some timely Leon Keating interventions and some marauding runs from Ali Hancorn.

A lack of composure in the dee coupled with the almost fanatical use of the reverse stick shot ensured Lewes failed to add to the score line. Nevertheless Lewes comfortably held on for a fourth victory in a row.

It is often said a mark of a good team is winning when you don’t play well, in which case this Lewes side is on the road to greatness.

Man Of The Match: Shared between Drew Wain and Leon Keating.
