FIXTURE: Sussex Div 2
HOME TEAM: Lewes Men's 3s (Amos 3)
AWAY TEAM: Horsham Men's 4 1
After mauling Chichester 7-0 the week before it was a case of Lewes Men's 3s expecting 'every man to do their duty’ as they faced Horsham on Trafalgar Day.
In the first half Lewes certainly displayed the ‘Nelson touch’ attacking with panache and vigour shifting the possession effortlessly across the pitch. Three quick close range goals from the predatory Oli Amos all came before halftime.
Horsham showed little threat and what they had was snuffed out by the twin bulwarks of Tom Fewster and Chris Picken. As the weather took a turn for the worse at the end of the first half, and with wind and rain obscuring both the ball and the opposition, Horsham came close to scoring but were thwarted by Billy Palmer.
The second half was a different story as Horsham adopted an all out offensive strategy that at times overwhelmed the Lewes midfield. A somewhat fortuitous penalty corner bought hope for Horsham but that was all it turned out to be as Lewes comfortably secured consecutive victories.
Next week's match against the league leaders promises to be an interesting affair.
Man Of The Match: Tom Fewster - solid as oak.
