LEAGUE: Sussex Div 2
HOME TEAM: Lewes Men’s 3’s 1 (Martin)
AWAY TEAM: Worthing Men’s 2’s 3
For the second league game this season Lewes 3's faced the stronger of the two Worthing teams in the league.
Lewes started strongly, which is a big improvement on last season. But halfway through the first half Lewes's defence was under pressure, and landed up conceding their first goal.
Lewes managed to catch Worthing on a couple of breaks but seemed unable to score - an open goal was missed! Continued attacks from Worthing saw the visitors get a lucky 2nd goal with 10 minutes of the half remaining. Lewes were down 2-0 at half time.
After a half time chat from Theo Dowse, Lewes Men’s 1st team coach, Lewes went out much stronger. Unfortunately after 15 minutes they conceded a well struck reverse shot from one of the Worthing forwards.
But this seemed to revitalise Lewes who started applying much more pressure on Worthing and playing much better hockey, with a few shots going just wide and one hitting the post.
Finally, George Martin managed to get the ball past the Worthing keeper into the net.
However, it was too little too late and Worthing finished 3-1 winners.
