A strong and disciplined performance secures 3 points.

The Mens 2s travelled to Horsham 2s looking to bounce back from a narrow defeat to Brighton last week. Previous games this season had seen a 2-0 home loss to Horsham 3s but also a 5-0 cup victory over Horsham 2s... so expectations of the opposition and outcome were mixed.

Captain Chewy’s pre game team talk focused on starting the game strongly, building from the back and keeping the ball - all elements the team has the ability to do. Horsham started brightly, moving the ball around the back quickly but the Lewes’s forward line of Sam Anderson, Oliver Amos, Jamie Cooke and Seb Daniels put in the hard yards defending from the front. The pressure told as Lewes won a short corner and Seb Daniels’s scuffed shot skipped into the bottom left corner. 1 - 0 Lewes.

Spurred on, the midfield of Danny Poulsen,, Oli Loader, Tom Clinch and Sam Rea started to dominate, pressing high and not allowing Horsham any room to breath. The skilful Danny Poulsen soon won another short corner and despite connecting well this time, Seb Daniels’s shot was covered until a cruel deflection lifted the ball over the beached goal keeper. 2-0 Lewes with 25 minutes gone. Relaxed and in the ascendency, the men in green saw out the rest of the first half with an assured possession game.

A spirited Horsham team came at Lewes fast and furiously at the start of the second half but the defence of Chris Whiting, Jamie Neill, Callum Boyland and Theo Whiting remained strong and calm, winning the ball back and feeding the forwards at every opportunity. More and more chances started falling Lewes’s way as Sam Anderson played two beautiful passes across the Horsham keeper that just needed a final touch. The next opportunity fell again to Sam... who this time had a shot... via a Horsham’s defenders stick resulting in the ball deflecting past the motionless Horsham keeper, putting the men in green into a comfortable 3-0 lead.

With 10 minutes remaining, Lewes saw the game out strongly with Callum Boyland and Theo Whiting marauding down the wings and Seb Daniels denied a wonder goal but the faintest of touches by the Horsham keeper.

Overall an assured display by the Mens’s 2 who sit 3 points off 4th place with some potentially favourable games to come over the next few weeks.

MOM: Theo Whiting for a dominant right back display of skill, determination and complete disregard for anything Tom Clinch says.

DOD: captain Chewy for his ‘do as i say not as i do’ half time dribble.
