Lewes were too strong in midfield as Billy Smart and Sean Rowlands dominated possession. Skipper Rob Heinzl opened the scoring from close range and then Bill Short deftly deflected a powerful hit into the circle to make it 2-0 after twenty minutes. Will Wycherley added a third with a fierce shot from the top of the circle and just before half time Sam Matthews followed up a penalty corner shot to make it 4-0 at half time.
Lewes’ performance dropped in the second half as they sat back on their lead but they still created chances to add to their tally which were spurned. The home defence was resolute and Chris Sharpe in goal dealt comfortably with any Crawley shots. Crawley’s goal was a consolation just before fulltime from close range.
