Lewes Men's 5s 'Cinderella Story' lives on for another week, as the team swept aside Crawley 4s in a 3-0 victory away from home on Saturday. The win takes the season's record to seven in eight.

Lewes were made to work hard in the opening stages of this game, as the youthful Crawley midfield pushed forward. However, the defensive rotation led by Toby Rolph, kept their nerve with Crawley's one and only chance on goal tipped around the post by the Lewes keeper.

The first Lewes goal was courtesy of a "Steve" combination as Loader slipped the ball left to Fuller who fired home convincingly. A second soon followed as Dave Cooke's assist from a long-corner was knocked past the keeper by John Harrop, breaking an alleged twenty year drought in front of goal.

The second half saw Crawley take over in the early stages, but to no avail. As the home side pushed forward Lewes were allowed plenty of room to run on the counter attack and run is exactly what Steve Loader did, on his own, outwitting the last defender and then coolly undercutting his shot past the keeper to leave the net billowing and effectively ending the contest.

Crawley continued to press until the end but with every man in green marking and tracking their players each attack was confidently overturned. Further chances to increase the Lewes lead further were squandered, but Captain and stand-in keeper Malcolm Wain got his clean sheet and three points to take home.

Next week the 5s are back at Home 4.30 to face Eastbourne's quick and high flying Eaglets.
