A close game probably deserved a point.

With the A27 in turmoil and South Saxons struggling to make pushback Lewes 5s elected to wait it out rather than take unwarranted points for a forfeit. The wait was worthwhile as a cracking end to end game ensued.

Another good performance from Lewes saw them leading the game 1-0 at halftime. Peter Thomas returning from injury, brought the ball quickly out of Midfield to the skipper who held up play before finding Thomas again on the overlap. A good cross then found Steve Fuller waiting in front of goal to put the home side in front.

The second half saw Lewes new boy Alan Forster and the skipper both thwarted by the young Saxon's goalkeeper. The defence of Toby Rolph, Mark Pearson, David Cooke and Tim Bullen worked hard throughout and Simon Popple man marked the Saxons centre half for the whole game to exhaustion however, eventually the youth of the Saxon's team won through with 2 goals scored by the visitors in a dominant 10 minute spell.

Lewes came close to equalising on a number of occasions and threw everything into the final 10 minutes but Saxons remained strong until the end. The highlight for both teams had to be the Apricot & Custard danish pastry served with chips for tea!!

Next week Lewes 5s travel to Southwick 3s for a 12.30 start and hopefully a return to winning ways.
