A couple of the Mens 5s, joined by players from the Mens 6s, Womens 3s, Legends and Lionesses, started their day volunteering outside Aldi as part of the club's on going support for the Lewes food bank collections.
In the early evening they welcomed Eastbourne 4s for their final game of 2023 hoping to end what has been a pretty successful year on a high.
Although Lewes were able to play some decent hockey at times in the first half and posed a regular goal threat, mainly with Mark S down the right, the visiting keeper was equal to anything the 5s created. Eastbourne also posed a regular goal threat and had taken an early lead on a well worked counter which they held till the half.
The half time talk was of upping their game by being more decisive with the ball.
As we approach the season of giving though the Mens 5s spent a lot of the second half gifting the ball to their opponents as Eastbourne ran out comfortable and deserved winners.
So not the finish to the year the Mens 5s were wishing for but the first half of the season has seen them sit mid table on their return to Div 3. They will be looking to at least match this form in the second half of the season so they don't get drawn into any relegation battle.
