Much needed win for Mens 5s

Looking to bring an end to their 3 game losing streak the Mens 5s headed to their home away from home Falmer to face Crawley 3s, after a minutes silence to mark remembrance day the game was underway.

A PC after 7mins was converted by Sandy whose hard shot the defenders on the line were unable to keep out, Crawley responded and equalised to set the tone for the first half both teams looking dangerous on the counter and both enjoying periods of dominance, Sandy restored the 5s lead before Crawley again equalised, when Mark Sallis made it 3-2 in the final seconds the visitors were unable to reply.

The 5s were able to enjoy some more control of the second half, the defence of Peter, Simon, Mark P and Steve keeping the quick forwards away from danger and launching attacks with good distribution from the back while Paul in goal was quick off the line when any balls got thru.
An early goal by Mark S gave Lewes some breathing space and when Mark completed his well earned hat trick with just over 10mins to go the Men in green looked comfortable for their 3rd win of the season. Crawley pulled one back with 6 mins to go but the 5s were able to see out the final mins without to much drama.

A much needed 3pts just reward for a good performance, a good all round display with the 2 younger members of the team showing continuing improvement JC working hard in Midfield and Ashley who played up front linking well with Joe and Mark and being a nuisance to the defenders when they were trying to play the ball out from the back.

Big thanks to umpires Ed and Peter, Ed rushing back from his appointed game in Crawley to officiate his 2nd game of the afternoon.

Post game some of the 5s headed back to the Southdown for teas and to watch the 6s also claim their 3rd win of the season vs Mid-Sussex and catch up with former 5s player Ben who now plays for Mid Sussex 4s.
