Southwick opened the scoring after a quick breakaway but Lewes equalised when Ali Coles’ cross was helped on to the far post where skipper Rob Heinzl made no mistake from close range. Lewes matched their opponents in end to end play and were still level at half time.
Lewes were dominant in the early exchanges of the second half but struggled to create a chance for all their possession. Southwick then went ahead mid way through from a penalty corner. Lewes responded but could not convert successive penalty corners of their own and Southwick broke quickly to score from close range to make it 3-1. As Lewes pushed up they were further exposed at the back and the hosts grabbed two further goals to win comfortably although the final score line was harsh on Lewes.
