Mike Fuller opened the scoring mid way through the first half after a quick break down the right hand side slotting the ball home from close range. This was the score at half time.
The early period of the second half saw the hosts apply pressure but solid defending from Bill Short and Mark Tonkin ensured Lewes maintained their narrow lead. With twenty minutes left man of the match Fuller broke into the circle and goal machine skipper Rob Heinzl applied the finishing touch. As Mid Sussex pushed forward Lewes broke again and Alex Pewter’s cross was converted by Heinzl. With seconds remaining Lewes were awarded a penalty stroke but Heinzl was inches wide from his hat-trick.
