5s well beaten by Worthing

The Mens 5s started their 2024 fixtures with an early trip to Angmering to take on Worthing 4s.

Worthing pressed the 5s back from the start but the visitors did pose a goal threat and Mark and Joe almost combined for an early goal, as the first half wore on Worthing's controlled play and crisp passing took control and held a comfortable 3-0 lead by the half.

The second half continued in the same vein the 5s struggling to keep possession and find their passes, Worthing were soon adding to their tally. Ian in goal having a baptism of fire on his 5s debut made some fine saves to keep the score down and Simon in central defence was his usual self breaking up multiple attacks.
Lewes struggled to offer much threat but managed to win their first PC, James W scoop shot was saved high into Joe's arm and Rupert followed in for a consolation goal, with the teams ready to restart the game after the goal was initially given the umpires were in discussion and after several minutes delay decided the goal would be changed to another PC and the 5s had nothing to show for a well worked PC other than a impressive ball sized lump on Joe's arm.

Worthing added a couple more to run out 7-0 winners.

The 5s start their second half of the season next week with Horsham the visitors at the Southdown.
